Stacking small wins for big gains

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together."

- Vincent Van Gogh

Our biggest accomplishments in life came to fruition through consistent, smaller efforts. Just as Rome was not built in a day, we did not make it this far in life without the help of tiny victories sprinkled in along the way. Whether it’s our personal or professional pursuits, we had to pursue and persevere so we could prosper. Careers. Businesses. Relationships. Families. They are built on small wins, which can help pave the way for sustained success and big victories.

Think about something you have consistently built over time. Think of all the labor and energy put into developing something that lasts, but that has purpose to us too. If it doesn’t have purpose, why bother? That’s what we gain when we build things over time. Purpose. Like there was a meaning for it all. A lived experience, complete with learning and growth. This is where the small wins come in, since we cannot develop anything momentous over time without experiencing them throughout the process.

This highlights the benefits of recognizing and even celebrating the small wins. We can treat them like milestones or winks from the Universe and God, reminding us that we are on the right track, while hopefully motivating us to keep going the distance! Keep working toward that better version of whatever you have been building for the long haul, be it a career, a friendship, or a beach dwelling body. We keep showing up. We keep making an effort.

A small win is a small win. Some days, just showing up can be a win. When we are consistent with our efforts, we create the ability to stack up those smaller wins that can eventually pay bigger dividends. And if it has enough meaning and purpose for us to consistently pursue it, it is on us to honor ourselves and our intentions enough to not only stick to it, but to do it to the best of our abilities, while stacking up those small wins along the way. If we are building something to last, we might as well do it with some dignity and devotion in the process. The big gains tend to show up as a reward for our sustained efforts.
