Prioritizing our life

“If you don't prioritize your life, someone else will.”

- Greg McKeown

Have you ever gotten into such a routine of life that it becomes stagnant or too predictable? Some people prefer the comfort of a predictable life while others sometimes find themselves trapped in one. Then there are those who prefer the randomness of new adventures and opportunities. To each their own. What should matter most it's what is important to us. Everyone has their own preference of how they would like to live their life. Hopefully, we can all be more mindful in our efforts to prioritize what is most important to us in our lives.

If you had to evaluate how your life is going right now, would you say you are prioritizing what is important to you? It's different for everyone. Some people prioritize their careers while others prioritize their family. Some people focus on giving back to their community while others focus on their faith. It's different for all of us. The one thing that is the same for all of us is the amount of hours in each day. Everyone's commitments and responsibilities are different, but we each get to determine how we spend our waking hours each day.

Sometimes we can get so wrapped up in life that we may lose sight of our priorities, or they may get shuffled around due to our current life situation. We may have to consider what we want to do versus what we have to do. We also have to consider if we are making the best use of our time every day so we can attend to our priorities instead of feeling like we are constantly on defense by taking care of whatever life is throwing at us. By attending to our priorities first, we can eliminate distractions that sometimes take less precedence.

Do this check-in with yourself. What are the biggest priorities in your life right now? Are there any that are falling off your radar? Are there any you are spending tooo much time on? Prioritizing what is important to us is the key to living a higher quality of life and becoming the best version of ourselves, as long as we are also attending to our priorities. Otherwise, we are just prioritizing what is not getting accomplished.
