"Adopt the pace of nature; her secret is patience." — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Of all the virtues, patience has got to be one of the toughest to master. In this on-demand world we live in, waiting just a few minutes in line at the store can sometimes feel like an eternity. Or catching a red light when we are already running late? Forget it. For me, it took years of learning to surrender to the moment, in exchange for peace of mind. I'll never perfect it, but I continue to develop patience so I can live a more care-free and enjoyable life. I also feel the benefits every day, which keeps me dedicated to mastering patience.
For me, developing patience derived from my connection with Spirit. More recently, I have been accepting how my life has been unfolding in Divine timing, according to the Universe or God. While I don't necessarily apply it with every missed opportunity or long line I am standing in, I take any moments of impatience and utilize them. Sometimes I learn from them. So many of us complain about not having enough time in our day, yet we make plenty of time to be impatient. Meanwhile, we can be doing so many other things to distract us from that which we are waiting to unfold, whether we are next in line or waiting until next year.

"But I want it now!" That's me sometimes. I can be impulsive. And I don't like waiting, whether it's a red light or that vacation in a couple months. Even more challenging can be waiting on an unknown or non-existent timeline, like finding a co-pilot for life, or landing that dream job. I have learned I don't need to be patient when I surrender to the moment and whatever is being prepared for me beyond the Veil of Existence. I don't need to rush anything, although I sometimes do. It's the human in me. I'm also getting better at surrendering to Divine timing, and allowing life to unfold as it should and will.
My outlook on life with patience and Divine timing has helped me to be more at ease with the speed at which things happen. While I know I have a hand in creating the life I choose to live, I have become much more comfortable understanding that, just like the weather, I have zero control over the timing of everything. Long red lights. Seemingly short lines that end up being the longest one. Or even ships that never come in. The timing wasn't right. I have noticed quite often, in hindsight, that Divine timing handles all that, and sometimes sets me up for something even better along the way. Patience taught me that. In the meantime, I'm just doing my best to continue leveling up my life while enjoying the ride. What's the hurry?
