"A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination."
I started enjoying life much more when I started making informed choices that benefit me and everyone I interact with. I don't care how cliche' it is, I'm always looking for the win-win. I'm not trying to screw anyone over. I want all parties to benefit from our interaction. I'm looking to come to an agreement on what's fair and what makes the most sense from an outsider's perspective. Of course, what's fair?
While I consult my head to help me weigh the facts, I consult my heart for the right feelings. When it's tough to weigh the facts I ask myself, what feels right in this situation? More times than not, I am willing to take the short end of the stick. I know it may benefit me later down the road and I don't mind looking like I lost out. I don't save that up in the form of favors I feel I am owed either. I don't keep score. Nobody owes me anything. It's easy to remember that way.
I remember when I used to not consult my heart. I made decisions that negatively affected my personal and professional relationships. I would not consider the feelings of others in the process. While maybe I felt I was right, I definitely was not tactful. My heart took a back seat to my foolish pride. I did not wear it well. Nobody won. This is why I rely on my heart a lot more now. It feels so much better coming from a place of Love. Life is more enjoyable.
I was able to tap into my compassionate self by being more present in my interactions with people and seeing some of me in them. It's a lot tougher to be a jerk when I focus on creating a win-win interaction where everyone walks away feeling better. It does not cost me anything. In fact, it has paid off by opening up more career opportunities. All it took was coming more from that place of Love.
