"Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun."
Show of hands please: Who likes having fun? Hopefully you are waving both hands over your head like the wacky inflatable arm flailing tube man out front of the car dealership. 😃 As kids, having fun was our number one job. We lived a more care-free existence with minimal responsibilities. We didn't have to concern ourselves with paying bills or keeping food on the table. Our biggest responsibilities were getting home in time for dinner after playing outside all day and brushing our teeth before bed. Ah, the good old days!
Upon becoming adults we were forced to take on much bigger responsibilities, which meant having fun would sometimes have to take a back seat to getting stuff done. Work before play, as they say. I remember in college making sure my assignments and studying were completed before heading out to meet up with friends, for the most part. 😁 After landing my first big boy job after college, the bills had to be paid before I could spend any of my paycheck having fun with my friends. Priorities, right? I always made time and set aside money for fun, though.
At 43, I'm still handling my responsibilities, but I have learned how to have more fun even while I'm adulting. I have more fun at home and at work by not sweating the small stuff. I found I can still be silly and responsible at the same time. I also learned to not allow the setbacks to prevent me from still having fun. I rear-ended someone yesterday with my car. I was driving to a birthday party and then going to play poker with my family. I could have allowed my car troubles to ruin the rest of my day, but I didn't. I had fun at the party and spent all night laughing while playing cards with my family. I lost twenty bucks too. 🤷♂️
Having fun last night helped to balance out the car crash. Fortunately, me and the other driver are fine. It will be an inconvenience and cost me money I didn't intend on spending. There are also a couple insurance hiccups going on, but I just have to take care of it. I still plan on having fun today because I understand how important it is for my own wellbeing. If we allow unfortunate circumstances to prevent us from still having fun, life can seem unbearable at times. If we can learn to take the good with the bad by enjoying the ups AND downs on the rollercoaster ride of life, we can have more fun along the way. That is, as long as you like having fun. 😁
